Eng. John Waweru started out his career in Telecommunications  at the defunct Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (KP&TC) in 1976 after graduating with a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He has since gained extensive experience in the telecommunications sector, spanning close to 40 years and further have interests in several local companies in the ICT sector.

He was the Director General of the defunct Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) currently Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) and also was the Managing Director of Telkom Kenya.

He is a past chair of the Telecommunication Dealers Association of Kenya (TDAK), as well as a Rotarian, a registered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya, as well as the Insitute of Directors of Kenya (IOD-K), which is a membership organization of practicing and aspiring Directors, drawn from both private and the public sectors of our economy.

He currently devotes most of his time on consultancy work in the field of mergers and acquisitions in emerging markets.
